Barcode scanner

#How do I connect a scanner to my account?

A barcode scanner allows you to quickly identify a product, customer, or sale.
A simple scan is enough to send the code to the software and trigger the corresponding action, such as adding a product to a sale.
Learn more about barcode management

A barcode scanner works like a keyboard: it sends the scanned code to the device as if it had been entered using the keyboard.
It is therefore generally recognized automatically, without any configuration in your account.

#Which scanners are compatible?

You can use:
– a wired USB scanner;
– a wireless scanner with a USB receiver;
– a Bluetooth scanner.

On a tablet or smartphone, we recommend using a Bluetooth scanner. On Android, a USB scanner can sometimes be used with a USB OTG adapter.

Compatible scanners are available from our partner https://wwww.materiel-caisse.com.

#How can I check that my scanner is working?

Open a text file and scan a barcode.
The code should be reproduced exactly as it appears, usually followed by a line break.

#Where can I use the scanner in the software?

You can scan a barcode, in particular:
– in Add a product when making a sale;
– in the Barcode field in a stock order;
– in the search fields (products, customers, etc.).

The 'Enable auto focus on the field - Add product -' permission, available under 'Settings/Users/Access management', allows the focus to remain automatically on the product addition field.
You can therefore scan several products in succession without having to click in the field between each scan.
If you do not use a scanner and this feature causes the keyboard to open unexpectedly, you can disable this permission.

#Can I use a scanner to perform an inventory count?

Yes. You can scan the products to be inventoried one after another.
Depending on your scanner, the codes can be:
– stored in its memory, then exported at the end of the inventory;
– sent immediately to a text file.

The resulting file can then be imported from 'Products/Import-Export/Import data:Inventory counts'.

#Problems and solutions

The scanner displays incorrect characters

The scanner is probably configured with a keyboard layout different from that of your device (AZERTY, QWERTY, etc.).
Refer to your scanner's documentation to change the keyboard layout / country. This configuration is usually done by scanning a specific barcode provided by the manufacturer.

The code is read but is not validated automatically

Your scanner must be configured to send a validation after each scan, equivalent to pressing the Enter key on the keyboard.
In the scanner's documentation, look for the setting that adds a carriage return (Enter / CR) after each scan. This is usually a configuration barcode that you need to scan.

Some barcodes starting with 0 are truncated

Your scanner may be configured to automatically remove the leading 0 from barcodes.
Refer to the manufacturer's documentation and look for the setting that allows you to retain the leading zero. Again, this is usually a configuration barcode that you need to scan.

The scanner does not work

Check the following:
– if the scanner is wireless, make sure it is correctly paired with its USB receiver or via Bluetooth;
– if the scanner is charging, temporarily disconnect the power cable: some models cannot scan while connected to the charger;

If the problem persists, resetting the scanner to factory settings will often restore normal operation.
Refer to the manufacturer's documentation for the procedure.
